What is Enlightenment?

Enlightenment is also called the awakening of wisdom. In our Dafa, it is called kaigong; that is, one has cultivated to completion, finished the entire course of cultivation, and one is about to go to a heavenly kingdom.

Upon awakening, what state will an enlightened being then be in? One who has succeeded in cultivating Buddhahood will become a Buddha; one who has succeeded in cultivating Bodhisattvahood will become a Bodhisattva; one who has succeeded in cultivating Arhatship will become an Arhat; one who cultivates the Tao will attain the Tao; and one who has succeeded in cultivating Godhood will already be a God. Because after completing cultivation some enlightened beings still have something to do in ordinary human society or some wishes to fulfill, they need to live among everyday people for a period of time. But living like this among everyday people is very hard for them. Because they are far too different from everyday people in their realm of thought, they are able to detect clearly all the evil thoughts in the minds of everyday people, such as strong attachments, selfishness, dirtiness, and scheming against others. Also, they can simultaneously detect the slightest mind activities of thousands of people. Furthermore, karma and viruses are everywhere in ordinary human society; there are also many other bad things floating in the air, unknown to human beings. They can see all of these very clearly. Karma in the present-day human society of the Last Havoc is quite enormous. While breathing, people inhale large amounts of karma, viruses, and poisonous gases. It is indeed very difficult for them to stay in this ordinary human world.

So what are they like? This is what those practitioners who are attached to this matter try to figure out. Do not pry into whether he looks like an enlightened one or she looks like one who has completed cultivation. You should put your mind to striving hard in genuine cultivation and also speeding up your completion of cultivation. Why look at others? As a matter of fact, those enlightened people are often disciples who do not show themselves off but engage quietly in genuine cultivation. They are of different ages and look no different from everyday people. It is very likely that they do not attract much attention. Although they possess all the divine powers and abilities of transformation, they find that human beings actually look like tiny, low beings who do not deserve to be shown these things. Moreover, human beings will develop various low-level human understandings and thoughts upon seeing these things, treating them with the human attachment of zealotry; this is intolerable to the enlightened beings. It is difficult for everyday people to understand wherein lies the true significance of the essence of the Buddha Fa divine powers.

At present, some practitioners who care about too many things other than being diligent in cultivation are searching everywhere for enlightened persons and so on. Think about it, everyone: The enlightened ones are already Buddhas and possess everything a Buddha should have. How can they allow people to know them so casually? How can humans know about Buddhas? When you are searching everywhere for them, your attachments, competitiveness, curiosity, mentality of showing off and being meddlesome, combined with the desire of pursuit are at the same time interfering with practitioners’ peaceful cultivation practice. Accordingly, do you know how they feel about this? To them, every intentional act or thought of a human being will make them feel uncomfortable!

Because some practitioners have come from very high dimensions to obtain the Fa, they will become enlightened in a very short time. The two-year time for cultivation practice I mentioned was given to these disciples. But all of our Dafa disciples have indeed made very rapid progress in their genuine cultivation; many of them will become enlightened very soon, and this is beyond the imagination of the cultivators in the past. I hope everyone will keep a peaceful mind, making continuous progress with perseverance. As each one completes cultivation, I will receive and deliver each one.
