I.
CONCERNING THE PERSON OF CHRIST.
I read the Athanasian Creed before Calvin, and in it the following words: "The right faith is, that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son
of God, is both God and man; God from the substance of the Father, begotten before the ages, and Man from the substance of [the mother], born in the ages.... Who, although He be God and Man, is yet
not two but one Christ. One, not by conversion of the Divinity into flesh, but by the assumption of humanity into God: One altogether; not by confusion of substance, but by unity of Person. For as the
rational soul and the flesh is one man, so God and Man is one Christ."
