click me Ahh. Another wonderful day. I'm fresh from four hours and feeling feisty (I think I have that out of my system now).

(Alan yawns and trips over the cat.)

Yes Chakra, I know. It's all of 4:30 for gosh sakes. How can you be hungry? You're like a cheshire cat, but instead of all-grin, you're all-stomach.

(Alan looks up sleepily from Chakra, and is shocked to find you standing in his kitchen.)

Hey you! What the heck are you doing in my kitchen? Get outta here!!!

(You leave through the window.)

I go back to redundantly feeding the cat over and over again.

And thus it begins. The repetitive things we do that fill our days. Busy, busy, busy. It's a wonder that we have time for anything else.

A List Of Repetitive Things That
I Do In An Average Week:

(I could use a laugh, so send me your list. Unless of course you lead a very exciting life. In that case, don't bother smarty-pants.)

Ahem. My list:

Feed more critters (one fish named OB, and some big mouthy ducks outside my home, who will quack forever unless you throw them some catfood). Run the dishes. Put away the dishes. Take the trash out. Curse the bills. Tackle the post office. Dust and vacuum (rarely). Shop for groceries. Make dinner. Laundry. Shave and a haircut, two bits. I think you get the point.

Our lives are filled with things to do that do not allow us the time to do the things we would like to do. You may quote me.

Yes my friends, even I (in the role of accidental expert) find it necessary to be realistic about my obsession. With so many things to do, who has the time to travel beyond their physical body?

Strategy

Traveling beyond your physical body is an artform. Like a Piccaso. No scratch that.

Traveling is more like studying a martial art. Perhaps bujinkan budo taijutsu (gesundheit). No, that's not right either. But I can use that imagery, easier than I might a Piccaso....

We are in a sage-scented room. You are sitting on a stack of hay. I am floating two feet above the ground. We both have accents.

Me: Ahh young cloudhopper, you wish to travel?

You: Yes Grandmaster.

Me: Well then, with patience, you too can be a grandmaster.

You: But I don't wish to be a grandmaster Grandmaster, for that would not be grand Master.

Me: Huh?

You: I am too busy to be a grandmaster Grandmaster. I wish only to learn of traveling and practice it on occasion.

Me: Ahh, I see young cloudhopper. You are wise. Now, pluck these marbles from my hand.

You: With the utmost respect Grandmaster...you try this trick every week and you always drop the marbles.

Me: Again you are wise young cloudhopper.

Obstacles

It is a difficult prospect to travel under the best of circumstances, and often, the effort appears impossible.

Your day may seem too short for anything but errands, work, the kids, and the need for sleep.

But my busy friends, it is not necessary to invest a lot of time in trying to travel (surprise:). Twenty minutes here and there is fine as long as you use your time productively. A good portion of traveling is spent learning and adapting. And you don't need to do that, at the same time as the actual travel.

For busy people, twenty focused minutes (at any point during your day) will greatly increase your chances of successfully triggering a travel later, when you head to bed.

Then (once you reach your bed at the end of a long day),
you may more easily:

*** Have a fully conscious start-to-finish travel or
*** Wake-up while out of body

The outcome of a travel (or lack thereof) depends on your attitude. You must decide to make the potential for traveling exist. If you look for traveling, you are more likely to notice it happening.

And (of course:) I have a few ideas for you to work with. Adapt these ideas to fit your lifestyle and vary which ideas you use from day to day. In this way, you can cover all of your travel-thinkin' ahead of time. You may then have faster lift-outs and successful travels during your down-time (hopefully:), although you lead a busy life. ____________________________

Twenty Minute Traveling Ideas:

Twenty focused minutes, whenever you can, may be used to:

Absorb yourself in thoughts of traveling. If you think about traveling, it will spill over into your restful hours. Read about it, email about it, post to newsgroups about it.

Twenty focused minutes, whenever you can, may be used to:

Think about last night's dreams. Or write down last night's dreams that should have been written down last night. What travel-related events occurred during your dreams? If you think about your dreams and desire to remember them, you will. And then, you may also recall some travelin'!

Twenty focused minutes, whenever you can, may be used to:

Verify the state of your consciousness. Are you dreaming? Think about it. Think about whether you're dreaming. And ask yourself questions to verify that you are awake and aware.

How did you get to work (or anywhere:) today? Did you drive? Did you take the bus? How long did it take you to get there? What did you see on the way? Can you recall where you were before you arrived there?

Ask yourself whether you're dreaming during your twenty minutes, and it will carry over to your night. This dream-query may then "wake-you-up" from a "dream-travel."

Create a checklist to keep track of your traveling successes and attempts.

Twenty focused minutes, whenever you can, may be used to:

Practice simple relaxation and visualized-meditation:
Sit quietly in a chair with your eyes closed. Gently push away daily-stuff. Let the world miss you for a few minutes. Relax your breathing and visualize someplace you wish to be. See it in your thoughts.

Twenty focused minutes, whenever you can, may be used to:

Plan a travel from start to finish and then replay it in your head ten times. You will then be prepared when a travel (intentional or otherwise:) occurs.

Think of every aspect of the travel that you wish to control. And as you repeat the instructions for your travel, you should visualize the actions you will take.

For example:
Later, after I am in bed...
I will roll-out from my sleeping physical.
I will go through the bedroom door and down the hallway.
I will "sit" in my not-so-comfortable chair by the window and watch my cat.
Then, I will move through the living-room window and out into the garden for a little bit.
At last, I will float to my bedroom window and pass through.
I will slide back into my physical.

Those ideas should be enough to get you started. As you can see, it doesn't take a lot of time to increase your traveling potential. It simply takes a patient, positive attitude and some creative thinking.

A well-spent twenty minutes, at any part of your day, will provide you the upper hand for traveling when you're too pooped to do all the work.
