Beelzebub

One of the many names for the Devil. It is encountered in the Vulgate both for the New Testament Greek, βεεʎςεβοήβ and the Hebrew ba’al-z’būb, meaning “fly-lord” (see 2 Kings 1:2). Milton made Beelzebub one of the fallen angels. Helena P. Blavatsky mentions Beelzebub in her book The Secret Doctrine where she says that, in demonology, he is the monarch of Hell (SD II:389 fn).
