Lat. ala, a wing), a word used technically by See also:analogy with its meaning of " wing." In See also:physiology, it means any wing-like See also:process, such as one of the lateral cartilages of the See also:nose. In See also:botany, one of the See also:side petals of a papilionaceous corolla, &c. In See also:architecture, a side apartment or See also:recess of a See also:Roman See also:house (the origin of " See also:aisle ").
