APSARAS , in See also:

In the Rig-Veda there is one Apsaras, wife of See also:Gandharva; in the later scriptures there are many Apsaras who See also:act as the handmaidens of See also:Indra and See also:dance before his See also:throne. They are able to See also:change their See also:form, and specially See also:rule over the fortunes of gaming. One of their duties is to See also:guide to See also:paradise the heroes who fall in See also:battle, whose wives they then become. They are distinguished as daivika (" divine ") or laukika (" worldly ").
