Her name, the " Unalterable " (d- privative, and -rpir&v, to turn), indicates her See also:function, that of rendering the decisions of her sisters irreversible or immutable. Atropos is most frequently represented with scales, a See also:sun-See also:dial or a cutting See also:instrument, the " abhorred See also:shears," with which she slits the thin-spun See also:thread of See also:life that has been placed on the spindle by Clotho and See also:drawn off by Lachesis.
