BOWTELL , a See also:medieval See also:term in See also:architecture for a See also:round or corniced moulding; the word is a variant of " boltel," which is probably the diminutive of " See also:bolt," the See also:shaft of an arrow or See also:javelin. A "roving" bowtell is one which passes up the See also:side of a See also:bench end and round a See also:finial, the term " roving " being applied to that which follows the See also:line of a See also:curve.
