CHERRAPUNJI , a See also:village in the Khasi hills See also:district of See also:Assam. It is notable as having the heaviest known rainfall in the See also:world. This excessive rainfall is caused by the fact that Cherrapunji stands on the edge of the See also:plateau overlooking the plains of See also:Bengal, where it catches the full force of the See also:monsoon as it rises from the See also:sea.
