DIWANIEH , a small See also:town in See also:Turkish See also:Asia, about 40 M. below See also:Hillah, on both See also:banks of the See also:Euphrates (310 58, 47" N., 440 58, 18" E.), which is here spanned by a floating See also:bridge. Formerly a military See also:post for the See also:control of the Affech territory, and a See also:telegraph station, it was in 1893 made the See also:capital of the sanjak, instead of Hillah, on See also:account of its more strategical position.
