See also:Vauquelin in 1798 published in the Annales de chimie an See also:account of a new See also:earth obtained by him from See also:beryl he refrained from giving the substance a name, but in a See also:note to his See also:paper the editors suggested glucine, from yXvuvs, sweet, in reference to the See also:taste of its salts, whence the name Glucinum or Glucinium (See also:symbol G1. or sometimes G). The name beryllium was given to the See also:metal by See also:German chemists and was generally used until recently, when the earlier name was adopted.
