MURAS , a tribe of See also:

South-See also:American See also:Indians living on the See also:Amazon, from the See also:Madeira to the Purus. Formerly a powerful See also:people, they were defeated by their neighbours the See also:Mundrucus in 1788. They are now partly civilized. Each See also:village has a See also:chief whose See also:office is hereditary, but he has little See also:power. The Muras are among the lowest of all Amazonian tribes.
