RATAFIA , a liqueur or cordial flavoured with See also:

peach or See also:cherry kernels, See also:bitter almonds, or other fruits; many different varieties are made. The same name is given to a flavouring essence resembling bitter almonds, and also to a See also:light See also:biscuit. The word is adapted from the See also:French of the 17th See also:century. See also:Skeat (Etym. See also:Diet., 1910) quotes as a possible origin a See also:combination of See also:Malay araq, arrack, and tafia, See also:rum.
