THE ABSTRACT AFFECTION LONG FORM Mountain View, CA 6/6/98 Revisions from Ontario, CA 8/2/98 Revisions from Pomona, CA 2/1/99 This movement is performed by two partners facing a few feet apart. The movement begins with palms on the knees. Inhale as the fingers drag up the thighs. At the waist, the lefts stop, while the rights continue to head level. 1. Exhaling, the right hands trace the right half of the wheel of time, ending with the palms face up at waist level; they stay there as the left hands raise to head level and mirror. Inhale deeply, gazing at the palms. In one continuos inhale, the hands retrace the wheel, right, left, trace a half circle forward, right, left, and trace both sides of the wheel simultaneously. Gaze at the palms, inhaling. Exhale as the palms return to the knees. 2. Inhale and straighten. The arms "open up"--the palms are raised to the V spot level and then the arms spread to their full extent, chests slightly forward. The first partner inhales as their forearms cross in an X, palms parallel to the floor, and waits as the second partner's hands lightly brush the top of the first's forearms in passing in both directions, inhaling on the first pass and exhaling on the second; the first partner exhales as their arms open up, and the movements and breathing are mirrored by the partners. They complete the exhale as they both return to "down" position, this time with the wrists crossed, right over left, between and slightly ahead of the knees. 3. Inhale and straighten, then exhale as the palms circle out, up, and cross at the waist to spread the energy laterally as if on a waist high table, about 6 inches beyond body width. They exhale as they both return to "down" position. 4. The palms arc backwards over their respective shoulders until they are facing the ceiling, fingers pointing back, as both inhale. 5. The forearms swivel so that the fingers point forward, as both lean forward slightly so that one partner's hands are under the other's as they exhale. 6. As the partners begin to bend at the knees and inhale, the arms make large loops out and back as the forearms swivel so that the palms end up by the hips, face up and fingers forward, the other partner's palms above the one's previously on top. Pause and exhale. 7. As the palms swivel at the wrist to end up with fingers pointing up, palms gently pressing the partner's, the foreheads gently touch. The partners lower themselves in this position, bending at the knees, inhaling. 8. Once stooped, the arms are pulled back at the sides from the shoulders, and to the back as far as one can comfortably; pause, then the hands flip forward at the wrists, as if lightly tossing something towards the shoulders. The forehead contact is maintained. The partners exhale as the palms again swivel inward on the forearms to the face up position of 6.; pause a moment. 9. The bodies straighten as the palms return to face up over the shouders, and forehead contact is broken. 10. The palms come forward to meet the partner's, and they pause. 11. The left arms are pulled back from the shoulder as far as one comfortably can, as the left shoulders dip and the right hands, rotated at the wrist to face out, simultaneously brush the inside of the partners' left knees quickly up, down a few inches, then the palms reverse themselves as they travel to the partners' right knees in a U-shaped movement (parallel to the floor), and brush up, down there. The move is mirrored. The bodies straighten, wrists crossed palms up at the waist. 12. The partners loop their arms in a large circle, the first up and out, the second down and in, so that they end up with the inside of the wrists touching the partners' a few inches apart at waist level. The partner on top/inside lightly brushes the other's wrists with his own by rotating their wrists slightly, 3 times. The other partner follows, then, carrying the partner's wrists along, rolls the wrists outwards three full circles. Then the other partner rolls them inward three full circles, and both partners swivel the palms at the wrist so that the palms meet, fingers pointing up. The fingers separate but the wrists maintain contact. One partner, then the other, light brushes the other's wrist three times, right, then left. 13. The partners dip at the shoulders down to the side and slightly in so that the forearms in the direction of the dip come together--the fingers are spread and as they pass before the partners' eyes, they look through the fingers. The move is mirrored, but after the partners have peered through their fingers the second time, they turn back and both step through in the direction of the joined hands, maintaining contact at the pinkies, and end up back to back, as the other hands' pinkies also establish contact at the end of the pivot. The hands drop to the sides. 14. The first partner reaches overhead and back, then grabs the other's shoulders; then the second does. In reverse order, they shoot their hands overhead, pause, then slowly lower them to the waist. They repeat in reverse partner order. 15. The partners pivot 90 degrees in the same direction as in 13. (ending up facing 90 degrees from the original direction), and stand side by side, facing the same direction. The right hands, at face level, give the wheel of time a half turn clockwise. The left hands mirror. Pause and inhale. The hands go to the top and bottom of the wheel of time, right hands on top, and turn clockwise a few degrees. The arms and chests then "open up" and the position is held a few moments as the form ends.
