Elisabeth APELGOT was 13 when she was deported on convoy 71 of April 13, 1944. She had been arrested in La Bachellerie (Dordogne) with her mother and her older sister, Sonia, 19. Sonia survived deportation and wrote: [Here] is the picture of my sister Elisabeth. When I returned from the camps, I found practically none of our possessions, and the only photographs left were moldy. Through a friend I found a painter who copied the decaying photos. From these paintings I then had photos taken.... The publication of these pictures seems to me a good idea. A face is more than a name.
