The KORSSIA family lived in Marseille at 14
quai du Port. The father, Jaya, was deported on convoy 52. The mother, Tamar,
was arrested at the train station, Gare de l'Est, in Marseilles. Six of her
eight children were arrested in La Destrousse, near Marseilles. Five of them
were deported on convoy 77 of July 31,
1944. Only Paulette, age 13, escaped the arrest. Gabrielle, 14,
Simone, 9, Mireille, 8, Claude-André, 5, and
Elise, 3, died, along with their mother. The two youngest children were
born in Marseille; the rest were born in Oran, Algeria. The Mayor's office in
La Destrousse has put up a commemorative plaque in their name. |
