The BENICHOU family lived at 10 boulevard
Brune (18th arr.) in Paris. Arrested there in July 1943 were the
parents, Menahem and Zavi, with seven of their eight children. The eighth,
André, the only one to survive, had been sent to Creuse on vacation
ahead of the others. The five older children were born in Algeria. In this 1939
picture, from left to right, are: Simone, born in 1926 in Sada;
Lucienne, born in 1928 in Sada; Jeanine, born in 1936 in
Mostaganem, shown here in her father's arms; André, the one who was
miraculously spared; Juliette, born in 1931 in Sada; and the twins,
Claude and Colette, born in 1938 in Paris, shown in their
mother's arms. Yvette, born on July 28, 1942, in Paris, is missing from
the photograph; she was deported with her parents and her six brothers and
sisters on convoy 58 of July 31, 1943. |
