To the right are his brothers: standing is Bernard, who perished at Auschwitz; seated is Roger, who escaped the roundups. The Borlants had fled to Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay (Maine-et-Loire), but the family was cruelly stricken in July 1942: their father, Aron, a tailor, was arrested and deported from Angers on July 20 on convoy 8 with his daughter Denise, age 21, his sons Bernard, 17, and Henri, 15, born in Paris. Only Henri returned; he later became a physician.
