RABAT AND THE
MIDDLE EAST
While waiting for that distant day to come, we are
enjoying life for a few weeks at the swimming pool of the Dalia kibbutz. But
all too soon Serge must return to Paris to study for his bar examination, which
he will take in October. What a joy this vacation has been in the kibbutz,
punctuated by lectures all over the country! What a lot of friends we now have
in Israel!
The energetic Myriam Meyouhas, member of the city council of
Jerusalem, has undertaken to form a committee to support my action. This idea
is most welcome at a time when LICA, which has underwritten a large part of the
expense of our work, has exhausted its resources. It will take some time to
build up this committee, but by November it will be a going concern. Its
cochairmen are deputies Haika Grossman of Mapam, and Benjamin Halevi of Likud.
Serge passes the bar examination. He is now a lawyer. Only 250 out of
the 850 who took the examination passed. He had prepared for his orals in
October in Israel while making a 55-minute program on the Irgun for French
television. The film will show how brave men fought against the English for the
independence of Israel. This struggle is fairly unknown, while people accept
almost as gospel Arafat's allegations of collusion between Zionism and British
imperialism.
