Euthanasia

Question:

I was wondering if anyone could suggest any materials that would aid me in writing a research paper. I have decided to focus my interest on the mentally and physically impaired people and what Hitler intended to do with them. Any suggestions on where to look for information would be appreciated immensely.

Brian Harmon answers:

I am one of the volunteers who answers questions for the Holocaust History Project.

the 'short essays' section of our site includes an extended bibliography that you should find helpful. you can reach it at:

http://thhp.org/short-essays/bibliography.shtml

Scroll down to the section entitled "Euthanasia". The references provided should make a good starting point.

Please don't hestitate to contact us if you have more questions.

Harry W. Mazal OBE answers:

Further to the response to your questions by my colleague, Brian Harmon, I would suggest that you read the transcripts from the Nuerberg Military Tribunnal Vol. I, which refer to the medical crimes committed by the Nazis.

You may see a transcript of the portion dedicated to Euthansia on my private web-site:

http://www.mazal.org/archive/nmt/NMT01-C001.htm

If you have difficulty with the above URL, go to:

http://www.mazal.org

and select "Nazi War Crime Trials: Nuernberg Military Tribunal" (one of the blue buttons).

This will take you to the listing of all 15 volumes of which only part of Vol. I is on line. (Once Vol. I is finished it will be transferred to the Holocaust History Project.)

Select "Table of Contents." and scroll down to the pages describing the medical experiments (pp. 92 ff). Section "D" (page 794) will take you to the chapter on Euthanasia simply by clicking on the page number. The little blue arrows on the left margin will take you forward and backward on this book. Be prepared for some very graphic and unpleasant descriptions.

Please report any broken links or typos!

Yours sincerely,

Harry W. Mazal OBE
