I'm impressed. Did I ever tell you the two times I snapped a clutch cable? Honestly it is possible to drive a Chevette, and a Chevy S-10 pickup without a clutch. I've done it. The trick is... to put the shift in neutral. Start the motor, and kick down the high idle. Open the door, and give the door frame a good push to get the truck rolling. (the time I had to do this with the pickup, the half brained idiot I had with me pushed from the back, though I told him over and over to push from the door frame. I had to do a U-turn and come back to pick him up.) When the truck is rolling, jump in, slam the door, and cram it quick into first. You have to guess at ground speed to get at second and third, but they aren't bad. I drove about 25 miles home one time from down town Rochester to my place in the burbs with a broken clutch cable. Got onto the expressway, and had to cram shift down for the toll gate, and then cram it into gear to get onto the highway. I don't even think I used the flashers -- why attract attention? What would you all do for a busted left-rear axle, if out in the boonies, with no communication of any kind? BTW, this is a 4 x 4. Stumped? Jack up vehicle. Take a large branch and I mean large. Wedge it under the axle housing and under the frame on one end. Let the other end drag on the ground. Disconnect rear driveline at axle and transfer case. Lock the transfer case into low lock. Now, proceed to use front wheel drive and pull yourself to where ever you have to go. Course, you may have to replace that really large branch one or more times. There is a faint possibility that you could use a type of sled runner under the axle housing or frame. You could also do the same thing under the front end, but it would be Hell to turn.
