You have 3 hours before you HAVE to leave. There is NOT chaos, so you do not have to worry about above average waits for items. What would you do differently than you would if you had five minutes to get your G.O.O.D. bag and leave? Personally, I would have somebody printing off all of my info on survival/preparedness while I ran to sams or walmart or some place and bought a bunch of storable food, and more importantly, storable water. Water is my weakness I know. However, there is not really anything I can do to change this (since I am living in parents house and I am a minor). Take the specialized cheese cooler repair tools out of the truck. Who wants to fix cheese coolers on the run? 2. Pack what I can in the way of clothes. As a size 52, I'm hard to shop for, off the rack. 3. Pack what food and water I can. Also a camp stove and a couple bottles of propane. 4. Make a gazillion phone calls, and send a gazillion emails. 5. Strap on a headset radio, and turn to the news station to keep me up to date while I pack. 6. Pack my one full, and two empty gas cans. And a case of oil. Stop at the gas station, fill up the truck and the two tanks. 7. Grab my Accounts Recievable, and Accts Payable, and credit card statements. And bank statement. 8. Grab my church book bag with scriptures. 9. Plan a direction, and take back roads. Try to get out of the house in an hour, so as to beat the crowds who are getting out in three hours. 10. Pack spare axles, and universal joints. And a portable welder, and a couple boxes of fan belts, and such. 11. Pray before leaving, to try to remember whatever else I forgot. Christopher A. Young P.O. I don't know how, but there are plenty of books that tell how. Learn to get double use out of things(get involved in the Boy Scouts and your folks will let you have all the camping and outdoor stuff you want), build a secret false bottom in a drawer and stash stuff(not illegal stuff, just stuff that would be a hassle if the folks found out), how about under and up in your box spring? Unless Mom is a neat freak and flips and twirls your mattress around every couple of weeks. You can tape envelopes under your drawers or put on the backs of them, maybe stash a few bucks there. If you like and the folks don't- how about a snake or lizards? You can build a box under the tank/cage and stash stuff there. There's a bunch of cool books put out by Loompanics and Paladin on hiding stuff. I would get my hubby, all the cash I could, and weaponry, BOB, Fill every possible jug with water, grab as much food and extra camping stuff as I could, swing by the bank and clean out my acct, fill the extra gas tanks and make like a tree and LEAVE! Hey, I just had a thought, do you have a tree house? Parents think they are neat for all kids and won't look too closely if it looks safe enough? If you don't have a tree, maybe in the woods or at Gramma's? Camp out a lot! I also figure you are shy on cash being a minor, check out thrift shops and yard sales for camping stuff, and anything else. Blessings, Andrea in Mass. <>< > >Say you decide it is time to bug out. Once in 5 minutes and once in 3 hours. In 1992, I moved to an old house, and a week later it burnt down. First thing I did was call fire department and my sister while hollaring at my son (he was taking a nap) to get up and get his school books, and pets out and get his coat and shoess. It was December and cold. About then the neighbor showed up and took my tv out of the kitchen and put it outside....go figure. I then collected all the cats including a puppy and packed them into the car so they would not go back into the house. One cat got away before I got him to the car. Also collected my coat, shoes, school books, savings, and family pictures. Most of everything else was lost. In the 93 flood, I had just rebuilt on the site of the fire. This house was about a mile or so from the Missouri River. It was not supposed to be a flood area, however in this case they had to open up the dam or whatever up north in another state because the flooding was so bad up there. Therefore our people were told when to expect the flood. They knew when the gates were open and tracked the water. They told us we had 3 hours, which once I left turns out it was more like 2 days. What did I do in the three hours? I gathered clothing, savings, important papers, pets, pet food, sentimental things, photos, the kid, kids clothes, video machine and games (kid would not let me leave those behind). Moved all the furniture I could move out of the lower living room to the upper dinning room. Moved all electronics and books I was fond of as high as I could get them, hoping the water would not get that high. I lost my new carpet, beds, two dressers night stands, misc bedding, and some shoes. The water only got a foot deep in my house and wicked up to two feet on sheetrock and up on beds, plus sewers all over town backed up in the houses. All in all, $7000 in damage due to cost of house repairs and new carpet. Anything that is irreplaceable like family photos, and important papers, you should keep negatives and copies somewhere else or in waterproof, fireproof containers. If you have to claim something on insurance, or temporarily move somewhere else and have you kid change schools for a while like I did in both cases, you need birth certificates, vaccine and medical records, insurance papers, etc. What would I do different? I would have owned a truck so I could get more out, more comfortably. At the time of both of these I was driving a very small car.
