Confession May Clear Al-Amin
An inmate in Las Vegas, Nevada, told officials that he shot two
Atlanta area sheriff deputies, killing one. Former Black Panther Abdullah
Al-Amin is currently being held in a Fulton County jail in connection with
that shooting.
Federal Bureau of Investigation officers in Las Vegas, released a
hand-written confession from inmate Otis Jackson. In the confession, Jackson
claims responsibility for shooting officers Ricky Kinchen and Aldranon
English.
Early last year, officers Kinchen and English went to the home of
Abdullah Al-Amin to serve a warrant. Gunfire erupted and officer Kinchen
was shot and killed.
Al-Amin fled to Alabama. He was captured there and returned to Atlanta
to stand trial for murder. He has maintained his innocence.
According to the F.B.I., Jackson told Nevada agents that he -- not
Abdullah Al-Amin -- shot the officers because he didn't like police. He
also told them he didn't think their warrant was valid.
The F.B.I. also says that Jackson believes that Al-Amin was identified
as the shooter because he was one of three black men at the residence the
night of the shooting.
