JUNE 16-19: National Days of Action to Stop the Execution of Shaka Sankofa and to End the Death Penalty All progressive forces are being called upon to hold solidarity activities June 16-19 to demand that Texas Gov. George W. Bush stop the execution of death row prisoner Shaka Sankofa (Gary Graham). Sankofa is scheduled to be executed June 22 now that the U.S. Supreme Court has turned down his final appeal. Sankofa was just 17 years old when he was charged with capital murder - a violation of international laws prohibiting minors from receiving death sentences. People all over the world, including lawyers and jurists, believe Shaka is innocent. Six eyewitnesses state that Sankofa was not the gunman. Four alibi witnesses passed polygraph tests. A ballistics report withheld from the jury proved the gun that prosecutors presented at trial was not the gun used in the crime. No court has agreed to hear this compelling new evidence. The State of Texas and Gov. Bush are the most infamous executioners in the country. As of May 15, Bush has executed 128 people, more than any governor in U.S. history. Another 20 are scheduled in the next few months. These emergency demonstrations are being called on "Juneteenth," the anniversary of the day slaves in Texas learned that slavery, was abolished.
