In the 1920's male tenor voices were all the rage, and James Melton was a popular heart throb singer of romantic ballads for nightclubs and speak easies. He became a recording star as phonographs became popular, but in the mid to late 1930's his style of tenor singing went out of vogue and he became an opera singer. Mr. Melton was born on January 2, 1904 and passed on April 21, 1961. He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for his phonograph record success and one for his popularity on early radio.
