Steve Mitchell, played by actor Brian Donlevy, is a soldier of fortune, willing to attempt any dangerous assignment that comes his way. He pretended to be a foreign correspondent for an American newspaper while secretly trying to accomplish the impossible against all odds.

NBC aired seven shows in the summer of 1949 to fill an empty spot in the summer schedule, and the show was so popular that when the first show opening appeared in February 1950, Dangerous Assignment was added to the regular weekly schedule.
