The Riders of the Purple Sage was a western band created by Buck Page in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1936 that played western songs on a one hour radio program in station KDKA, and also performed as the radio station house band for other occasions. By the time WWII had started the band was playing around the country and headed by Foy Willing, and when the war started the original members went into the service and Willing continued with new players. After the war the original members returned and this coast-to-coast radio program was produced. Every show featured Cowboy Western songs by the band and a Western story, sometimes with band members as the entire cast and many times with a Western guest star.
