Before this show, most hit shows began on radio, and if successful, a television version would be created. The television show Have Gun Will Travel, starring Richard Boone, was broadcast on CBS beginning in 1957, and was so successful that this radio version was then created for the ABC radio network. Beginning November 23, 1958, the radio version was broadcast with John Dehner starring as Paladin. Paladin was a hired gun working from the Carleton Hotel in San Francisco, and he often chatted with the hotel bell hop Hey-Boy, played by Ben Wright. Television and movie actor John Dehner has a face you know, even if you don't remember his name. Originally a professional pianist, Dehner got a job as an animator for Walt Disney, drawing for both Fantasia and Bambi motion pictures before becoming an actor.
