Written by M. Wolcott Redding, iNew York: Redding & Co., 1874. A concise description of the ruins of King Solomon's cities together with those of forty of the most ancient and renowned cities of the East, including Babylon, Nineveh, Damascus, and Shushan. Numerous wood engravings, 544 pages. Excellent condition. Beautiful color frontispiece, "Site of King Solomon's Temple and Grounds, from a photograph taken by Chrysostom in June, 1872." Full brown leather w/gilt trim and gilt title at spine with a central gilt cartouche, brown coated endpapers. All edges are bright-shiny gold. Book measures 6.26" x 9.25". Two lithographs and 90 full page engravings. 

As anyone can see above, the large accompanying map of Jerusalem (which is generally torn and tattered with most editions) has been skillfully removed from the book and professionally mounted and framed thereby preserving this fine piece for all times sake. There are only two very slight tears along the center crease of the map (notable as white slits). The map of Jerusalem (measuring 19.25" x 15.25") shows the locations of the various sectors (Armenians, Christian, Jews, Tyropon, Mohamedans, Moriah, Russian Church, Dome of the Rock, David's Tomb, Lower Pool of Gihon, Camp of the Assyrians, Mont of Olives, V alley of Hinnom, along with other designated locations including the walls and gates.) Book features fold out sketches including the Pass of the Jordan.
