Natural Progesterone & Beautiful Skin

Dr. Peat has somewhat encouraging news for those of us concerned about wrinkled skin. In spite of estrogen’s promotion as a “youth drug,” he says it “is known to advance the aging of collagen in all tissues that have been studied, including skin.” He comments wryly that “women, like cows, will puff up with water and fat under the influence of estrogen, and wrinkles will naturally be smoothed out, but the skin itself is actually losing its elasticity faster when estrogen is used.” On the other hand, he says, “Progesterone has been found to reverse the chemical changes which occur in collagen with aging”-as well as to normalize the immune system so as to suppress reactions that may contribute to the aging process.
But one should not expect miracles! This teatment seems to be more effedtive fro some women that for others and is probably dependent on many factors, including the age at which it is begun and the degree of prior overexposure to the sun. Dr. Peat, however, has one more bit of advise: use coconut oil in place of skin creams and lotions containing the much-touted polyunsaturated botanical oils. These latter, he says, actually romote aging of the skin by intensifiying the effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays!
We know of other skin conditions as well that sometimes respond to topical progesterone therapy. Dr. Lee can document cases where his patients’ acne, psoriasis (scaly reddish patches), rosacea (rose-colored, flaky areas near the nose and forehead), seborrhea (flakes and itching), and even keratoses (hardened skin cells that could be precursors of squamous-cell skin cancer) cleared up when they applied progesterone cream. This natural approach sounds wonderful compared with other options, such as surgery or antibiotics (which kill friendly bacteria, often leading to “leaky gut” syndrome and candida yeast overgrowth).
