THYROID DEFICIENCY Please read this before continuing on:
Many people over age 40 are thyroid deficient, but blood tests fail to detect this subtle hormonal deficit that can be a cause of weight gain, fatigue, immune impairment, adult onset diabetes and premature aging. One way of detecting thyroid deficiency is to take your temperature about 30 minutes before lunch for seven days. If your temperature is consistently below 98.6 degrees F, you may be thyroid deficient. Drugs that can be prescribed to treat severe thyroid deficiency include Cytomel, Synthroid, and Armour. Natural therapies that may correct underlying thyroid deficiency include 1 mg a day of iodine, 500 to 1,000 mg of the amino acid tyrosine, 3 mg of melatonin at bedtime, 10 grams a day of Soy extract, (which provides at least 40 mg of genistein), and DHEA replacement therapy. An appropriate dose for men is 25 mg of DHEA, three times a day; an appropriate dose for women is 15 mg. of DHEA, three times a day. Refer to DHEA PRECAUTIONS before beginning DHEA therapy. Correcting a thyroid deficiency can slow down some of the degenerative diseases associated with normal aging and help you lose weight. Natural therapies boost youthful levels of thyroxine, which is safer than replacing it with drugs such as Synthroid. Product availability: Melatonin, Tyrosine, Super Soy Extract and DHEA are available OnLine or by calling 1-800-544-4440. Thyroid medication should be prescribed by a knowledgeable physician.
