Blue-Green Algae Helps Learning Disorders
Natural substance found to significantly improve learning disorders, boost immune
system, Researchers say
A natural grown variety of Blue-Green Algae known as Aphanizomenon flosaquae (AFA) has
been reported to produce improved behavior and learning abilities in children. Test
results on AFA have been published in a study entitled The Children and Algae Report.
The study which followed 109 students who were fed AFA, concluded that the children had
a significant improvement in the ability to focus, follow directions, and concentrate. In
addition the children experienced a reduction in argumentative, demanding, and combative
behavior, fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression, an improvement in social skills, and
fewer signs of emotional and behavioral withdrawal.
The parents and teachers were amazed with the results stated Claudia Jarratt, the
leader of the team conducting the research. We went into the study with only a handful of
anecdotal stories which seemed to indicate that the AFA could improve the learning and
behavior of some children, but the study confirms this over a much larger population.
The fact that a small amount of Blue Green Algae can be so effective in helping
learning and behaviorally challenged kids is remarkable. In a separate double blind
clinical study conducted at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Canada, AFA was also
found to enhance the immune system by triggering the movement of 40% of the Natural Killer
Cells (NK Cells) from the blood stream, (where they normally reside) into the tissues of
the body, (where their primary immune system function is to eliminate cancerous and
virally-infected cells). According to Daryl Kollman, CEO of Cell Tech, the company
which harvests the algae, No other substance is known to trigger such a movement of NK
cells in the body. Further research may prove that eating a small amount of AFA every day
could assist in the prevention of cancer and viral infections.
