Valya and Victoria are back

Dear Friends,

Valya and I have finally returned from our 100-day trip around the globe. We witnessed a green smoothie revolution happening everywhere we went. For example, we were volunteering in Africa. While traveling through Zambia, we went to the market to buy some fruits and greens for a smoothie, when suddenly, a woman’s voice called my name, “Mrs. Bootekka, Mrs. Bootekka! Is it you? I know you! I read your book! I am so glad to see you! Thank you for teaching us about green smoothies. I drink them every day.” She said happily. We hugged producing many laughs from the market visitors.

I hear similar comments everywhere I go. My book Green for Life has been translated into more than forty languages. In Thailand, a friend translated a two page digest of my book into Thai, and I saw people reading it with great interest. My Japanese friend shared with me how the green smoothie was recommended for survivors of the nuclear accident. I heard from people in Iceland that green smoothies help them to survive during the long dark winter, because chlorophyll is liquefied sunshine. It is possible to make smoothies in any climate, for example, Valya and I have sailed to the northernmost part of Russia where we witnessed white nights with the sun shining brightly at 2 in the morning. When our ship made stops we collected stinging nettles and other wild edibles on the shore and made ourselves green smoothies mixing in fruits from local markets.

I am still using my tiny traveling blender “Tribest” I would like to share one helpful tip with you. When using a regular blender (not a high-speed blender) you may want to blend the greens first. I cut my greens with a knife into 1-2 inch pieces and then add them to the blender. I blend greens with water for 20-30 seconds. Then I slice and add bananas or other fruit and blend mixture for another 10-20 seconds. This way the smoothie turns out more thoroughly blended, which is important both for better absorption as well as for pleasant texture.

The northern part of Russia was full of wild forests and exquisite architecture from the 15th century. Valya made a 3 minute video featuring this last part of our trip. Enjoy!

Sergei’s River Surfing

While we were sailing in Russia, Sergei became fond of a new exciting sport called river surfing. For him, staying fit is a simple matter of finding a new adventure and having some fun. Enjoy this video filmed in a mountain river in Montana.
