calcite-modified scalenohedron crystal-1
Mexico
Originally, a very sharp scalenohedron
crystal (dogtooth spar) formed. There must
have been a break in the
crystallization process and then a change in the chemistry
of the mineralized
solution, because a different type of calcite crystal, distinguished
by a
termination of three low angle faces, started growing on top of the
scalenohedron.
