wood tin-3
Taylor Creek District, New Mexico
Cassiterite is SnO2
Cassiterite, tin oxide, is the primary
ore of tin. The specimens shown below are
known as "wood tin" because of
their brown, wood-like color and texture. In
scientific terms these
rounded nodules of cassiterite are described as reniform
and botryoidal.
The nodules have a radiating fibrous structure with concentric
banding.
The nodules in this photo are just under one centimeter in length.
