How to Use the AT Sourcebook CD and AT Library

Software requirements

To run the AT Sourcebook you will need at least a 3.0 web browser. To install one off this CD go to install.htm

If you purchased the AT Sourcebook as part of an AT Library you will also need to install an Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not already have a browser installed on your computer go to install.htm.

Using the AT Sourcebook

The Appropriate Technology Sourcebook reviews 1150 books on appropriate technology. The books are divided into 26 subjects which are listed at the left side of the screen.

To find a particular book listed in the AT Sourcebook you can:
  1. Link to the desired subject area by clicking on the hyperlinked subject areas at the left side of the screen.


  2. Perform a keyword search in a particular page of the sourcebook using Window's "Find" utility by going to Edit / Find.


  3. You can perform a keyword search throughout the entire sourcebook using the "Search The AT Sourcebook Link" located at the top of the frame at the left hand side of the screen.

  4. You can search the alphabetical listings of books by clicking on the link "List of Books By Subject" located at the bottom of the frame at the left side of the screen.

Finding Books in the AT Library
Once you have found a book in the AT Sourcebook, if you have purchased the AT Library, you can open up a full text version by using the disk number and file name to the right of the title of each book. (example below)
Aspects of Irrigation with Windmills. Disk 15, File 21-500, book, 100 pages by A. van Vilsteren, 1981) is a review of the agricultural and economic factors that affect the viability of windpowered irrigation. This material is certainly applicable to other windmill designs as well.

To open the full text version of the above book "Aspects of Irrigation with Windmills" simply load disk #15 into the CD-ROM drive on your computer and open file "21-500" in the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
