With my every day use of Mini-Mag, and pager I do find myself using more AA than other sizes of batteries. I bought some NiMH (which I fondly call "Nickle dimes") and they do well for the minimag. I have to remember to change them every night with the ones in the charger. Not a big deal, for me. And rechargable alkalines in my pager. The battery manufacturers may want you to think that run-down tests are misleading. However, when you are in a dark cellar (as I have been several times this week) the only thing that really matters is if you twist the Minimag will it put out light. Knowing that a cell delivers 100 mAh, at 25 mA per hour, with a terminal voltage of 0.8 is nice, but it doesn't help you find the ladder that gets you up and out. And knowing that a battery has 20% greater performance is no comfort when your camera flash is failing to charge. Personally, I prefer actual use tests. Of course, I'm a bit nerdy and like these toys. I should just buy the Toshiba alkalines (about $11 for 40 cells at BJ's). Christopher A. Young P.O. I have found that in high drain devices such as my CD player boom box, Dollar General brand Alkaline tend to last the longest...Honest They are very good batteries! In medium drain devices such as my Sangean ATS-818 Short-wave, Panasonic and Hitachi-Maxell Batteries do best. In low drain devices such as my GE Superadio, Energizer Industrial Alkaline seem to last almost forever. Energizer Industrials also last longest in my Palm PDA. Battery life depends much on the freshness of the battery when you buy it. I always look in the beck of the battery displays for the newest dates. The ONLY battery I will use in my vehicles is the Interstate Megatron. Of course, Your mileage may vary. Possum ------------------------ Yahoo!
