Help Wanted
If you would like to contribute some of your time ton getting the most
important public domain Christian Classic books on the Internet, here
are some volunteer tasks you might be able to take on.
Liz Goodman is the volunteer
coordinator. She can help you find the job that's right for
you.
Digital Facsimile Editions
Digital facsimile editions are books made
up of page images and text, some of which has been proofread and some
of which hasn't. They make it fun and easy to correct a page here,
a page there. Now you can contribute to the CCEL easily, and without
a large committment of time.
If you aren't sure aren't sure how to proceed or what to do,
you might start by viewing the digital facsimile editions that others
are working on. Click on a page, and then click on the "progress" link
to see what pages need work. Click on the "Needs Correcting," "Needs Proofreading,"
or "Needs ThML Markup" links for instructions for each step. Contact
Liz Goodman with questions.
Cataloguing
Prepare metadata records for books on the CCEL. This involves noting
the Library of Congress call number, the authors, subjects, etc.
Prepare ".meta" files and send them to me.
Instructions are
available.
Jonathan Edwards
Jonathan Edwards is commonly considered America's best theologian and
philosopher. His works are spiritually rich as well as theologically
acute. I would like to get all of Jonathan Edwards' Works on
line. I have scanned the two volume Works, and uncorrected
text as well as page images are available on line. You could correct
or proofread a section of this work. More information on the Edwards Project is available.
Contact Liz Goodman for more
information.
Format a book
You could format a book in Microsoft Word that is currently only
available as a text file. The formatting involves applying paragraph
styles appropriately, handling footnotes, etc. When the book is
formatted in Word, it can be saved in RTF format and automatically
converted to HTML, text, postscript, etc. Guidelines are available.
Author Biographies
Find a public domain reference source and prepare a biography of one
page or less of some of the authors on the list in HTML. If you find
more extensive biographical information from a trusted source that
you wish to include, link it from the 1-page biography. Some
suggested sources include an old edition of the Encyclopedia
Britannica, published before 1922, the Catholic Encyclopedia,
or your local library.
