Editing Instructions for

Digital Facsimile Editions

Digital facsimile editions are ebooks that consist of page images rather than electronic text. The page images look exactly like the print edition -- in fact, they are pictures of it. But images are slow to download and not easy to search.

The big idea behind this kind of edition, the reason for developing the software, is that they enable users all over the world to contribute to the CCEL vision. There are several steps to making an etext in this way. Each page must be

After all of the pages have been corrected, proofread, and marked up, a ThML document can be made fairly easily -- and from there, conversions to HTML webs, text files, and other formats, are automatic.

Look for editing guidelines for a book in an HTML comment on the first page. (Go to the first page, then click one of the edit options.) You can add editing guidelines here also.

 

Contribute to making these important books available to everyone. Correct or proofread a few pages. If you can, do one page a day!
