Greek and Hebrew Fonts from Scholar's Press

Scholars Press currently has five public domain fonts available for use by anyone who would like to download them. The first, SPTiberian, is a Hebrew font whose encoding scheme closely follows that of the Michigan- Claremont scheme. The second, SPIonic, is a Greek font based on the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae encoding scheme. The third, SPAtlantis, is a transliteration font that includes diacriticals and other special characters that allow the representation of numerous Indo-European, Semitic, and other languages. The fourth, SPEdessa, is a Syriac Estrangela font based on the Michigan-Claremont encoding scheme. The fifth, SPAchmim, is a Coptic font based on the TLG encoding scheme. All of these fonts are TrueType fonts, and each is available in both Macintosh and Windows formats. Each font also has associated with it a .readme file that explains the keyboard mapping of the font.

In the mac directory, the fonts have been compressed using Stuffit and encoded in ASCII using BinHex (thus the .sit.hqx extension). They can be unstuffed and un-BinHexed by using Stuffit Expander. Fonts in the windows directory appear in both uncompressed (.TTF) and compressed (gzipped) (.TTF.gz) forms. A gzip utility must be used to uncompress the .gz files.

We hope you can make good use of these fonts. Feel free to send any comments to Jimmy Adair ([email protected]).
