brochantite-2
Morenci, Arizona
Brochantite is Cu4(OH)6SO4
Brochantite is a basic sulfate of
copper. It is often mistaken for the mineral malachite,
but
brochantite has a touch more blue to its green color than malachite. This
specimen came from the
open pit in Morenci, Arizona. The rock split in half along
a pre-existing crack
where the starburst
patterns of brochantite had formed.
The starburst is about 1 centimeter across.
