Color:  colorless, white, yellow, orange, pink             Streak:  white

 

Hardness:  4           Specific Gravity:  2.05 to 2.15         Fracture:  uneven

Tenacity:  brittle       Luster:  vitreous

Cleavage:  one direction, poor

 

Crystal Forms:  Trigonal System
     Crystals are rhombohedrons with angles close to 90 degrees.

Mineral Associations:  found in cavities in basalt

Identifying Characteristics:  resembles calcite, but is harder and does not effervesce with hydrochloric acid
