crocoite-2
Dundas, Tasmania, Australia
Crocoite is lead chromate. It is a rare
mineral. The only reason that it is included
in this collection is because of
its beautiful bright red color. There are two other
red minerals that can be
confused with crocoite, vanadinite and wulfenite. Crocoite
forms bladed
crystals, distinguishing it from vanadinite which forms hexagonal
prisms, and
wulfenite which forms flat, square crystals.
