magnetite crystals-1
Magnetite is iron oxide with a ratio of iron
to oxygen of 3 to 4. It is a black mineral
and is strongly magnetic.
The most common crystal shape is the octahedron.
Upon prolonged exposure
to air and water, magnetite will oxidize to the
brownish-red hematite.
