muscovite with inclusions
Muscovite is KAl3Si3O10(OH)2
Normally, a thin sheet of high grade
muscovite mica is almost perfectly clear and
transparent. However, sometimes impurities of rutile and various oxides of iron are
present and create patterns rivaling modern art. Often the impurities align with
crystallographic directions within the muscovite, creating hexagonal network
patterns.
