AGORANOMI , magistrates in the republics of See also:

Greece, whose position and duties were in many respects similar to those of the aediles of See also:Rome. In See also:Athens there were ten, chosen annually by See also:lot, five of whom took See also:charge of the See also:city and five of the See also:Peiraeus. They maintained See also:order in the markets, settled disputes, examined the quality of the articles exposed for See also:sale, tested weights and See also:measures, collected the See also:harbour dues and enforced the See also:shipping regulations.
