ASTYLAR (from Gr. a-, privative, and vrukos, a See also:

column)-, an architectural See also:term given to a class of See also:design in which neither columns nor pilasters are used for decorative purposes; thus the Ricardi and See also:Strozzi. palaces in See also:Florence are astylar in their design, in contradistinction to See also:Palladio's palaces at See also:Vicenza, which are columnar.
