BANKSIA , an Australian genus of shrubs and trees (natural See also:order Proteaceae), with leathery leaves often deeply cut and handsome dense spikes of See also:flowers. It is named after See also:Sir See also:Joseph See also:Banks (q.v.). The See also:plants are grown in See also:England for their handsome foliage as See also:evergreen greenhouse shrubs.
