After he became of See also:age he was engaged in a See also:long struggle with See also:external enemies, and in 1250 was compelled to recognize the supremacy of the See also:margrave of See also:Brandenburg. Having in 1264 See also:united the whole of Pomerania under his See also:rule, Barnim devoted his energies to improving its See also:internal See also:condition. He introduced See also:German settlers and customs into the duchy, founded many towns, and was extremely generous towards ecclesiastical See also:foundations.
