CARAVELLAS , a small seaport of See also:

southern See also:Bahia, See also:Brazil, on the Caravellas See also:river a few See also:miles above its mouth, which is dangerously obstructed by sandbars. Pop. (189o) of the See also:municipality 5482, about one-See also:half of whom lived in the See also:town. Caravellas was once the centre of a flourishing See also:whale See also:fishery, but has since fallen into decay. It is the See also:port of the Bahia & See also:Minas railway, whose See also:traffic is comparatively unimportant.
